oprah-winfrey_2263‘Oprah’s Book Club’ has selected a book written by Academy Award winner actor ‘Sidney Poitier’ as its pick for the book club, which will be announced in The Oprah Winfrey Show this week.

The 304-pages long book is published by Vintage Books, a paperback imprint of Random House, Inc. Sidney poitier is also the guest-of-the-week for the talk show. An email in this regards sent to the book club members read:

Tune in Wednesday, March 28, to see who came to dinner with Sidney Poitier - plus, Oprah’s picked a new book for you to read this spring!

Oprah’s Book Club is a segment of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which highlights books chosen by host Oprah Winfrey. The popularity of the club acts as a magnet for the selected book as it gets immense popularity and increased sales. This is known as the ‘Oprah Effect’.

Oprah Winfrey suspended the book club in 2002, but she brought it back in 2003. Incidentally, last year’s book club pick was also a poitier memoir titled The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography.

Winfrey’s selection has been critisized many times by literature writers for being overly sentimental, but the book club gets stronger with each criticism recieved.
